From the 1st March 2016 Dr’s Slater and Peatman will be changing their appointment system to the Phone First. Dr’s C Lake, J Lake, Loxton, Tollast and Moss are already operating their appointment systems under this model.
The Phone First Access System provides quicker and more effective treatment for patients by avoiding unnecessary surgery consultations with a GP. The GP telephones the patient to discuss the complaint and triages them to the most appropriate person, such as a nurse, or books a face-to-face appointment with a doctor, or provides advice on the telephone. This means that the patient has a quicker access to the GP instead of having to potentially wait a longer time for a face-to-face appointment. The benefits to the Phone First model are:
Research shows a 20% reduction in emergency admissions from practices using the rapid access model
DNA’s (missed appointments) are reduced, meaning that their are less wasted appointments
Prioritisation is given appropriately for urgent and non urgent problems
Waiting times are reduced for patients to see the doctor.
Increased speed and efficiency in dealing with requests and attending to medical problems.
PLEASE NOTE THAT PATIENTS ARE STILL ABLE TO ATTEND THE URGENT CARE CLINIC FOR APPROPRIATE PROBLEMS.
