We are looking for a Salaried General Practitioner to join us on our journey in to the future. We are a highly rated, well-run, forward thinking training Practice with a great team ethos. Main duties of the job

Although we have specific sessions that need covering, we would make every effort to be flexible. Your main focus will be your routine clinics, which are a mix of eConsult, phone calls and limited face to face 15 minute appointments. We also run a structured triage duty session for acute issues, which has a GP lead, but is supported by nurses and HCAs. You would be expected to undertake a proportion of these sessions. Our GPs have admin time structured into the working day and visits are infrequent with AVS on board. Our salaried GPs have their own patient list. In addition to the salary we offer reimbursement of medical indemnity, NHS pension, 6 weeks annual leave. You will also have paid study leave as well as the opportunity to attend 10 time protected TARGET educations sessions that are run throughout the year. We use TPP SystmOne with ARDENs templates and accuRx. As a training Practice we are always interested in supporting GPs with any special interests.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This list is not exhaustive, but gives the main flavour of the role.

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. The main responsibilities are as follows:

  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including consultations (in whatever format) , and queries, visiting patients at home if no capacity within AVS , checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols.
  • Providing counselling and health education.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Collecting data for audit purposes.
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions utilising EPS.
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
  • Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.
  • Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records.
  • Contributing to the summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data.
  • Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

 

Person Specification

Qualifications – Essential
  • MRCGP qualification or similar and appropriate;
  • Current registration with the GMC;
  • Representation with a recognised medical defence organisation;
  • Current DBS check (we will recheck this as part of the recruitment process);
  • Valid UK driving licence
  • Registered on a medical performers list.
Experience – Essential
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work as part if a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Ability to work with limited supervision;
  • Time management skills- ideally a proven ability to handle a primary care case load;
  • IT proficiency and familiarity with primary care clinical systems (the Practice uses SystmOne);
  • Experience in using Microsoft suite programmes and accuRx;
  • Understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for confidentiality with regards to patient matters
  • Ability to draft error-free letters and reports in a timely manner;
  • Ability to work flexibly when required.
Desirable
  • Willingness to learn new skills;
  • Evidence of working / training in General Practice;
  • Experience of working to standards / guidelines applicable to Primary Care e.g. NICE, prescribing, QOF;
  • A good understanding of GMS contracting requirements and the operation of the Quality Outcomes Framework (QOF) process.
